Brief Description

Based in our downtown Montreal office, the Senior Analyst, Public Markets will report directly to the Principal and will be responsible for assisting in the execution of the public market’s investment strategy covering Public Equities, Fixed Income and Cash Alternatives, primarily through sourcing, analyzing and recommending relevant external managers.

The ideal candidate is a highly versatile investment professional who is inquisitive, resourceful, and proactive. We are looking for a professional with multi‐asset class research and manager selection experience and strong analytical acumen. Specifically, the selected candidate will have the following responsibilities:

 

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Proactively source, research, and screen external managers, and prepare recommendations for high-conviction top‐quality investment opportunities aligned with investment strategy.
  • Conduct due diligence on potential external managers.
  • Monitor invested positions on an on-going basis, and report on relevant informative findings on a timely basis
  • In relation to occasional macro and market trades, execute equity, fixed income and currency trades while ensuring the best execution, and proper settlement of trades in collaboration with the Operations team.
  • Conduct research and analysis on markets and investment opportunities.
  • Monitor, interpret and communicate market developments.
  • Be versatile in diverse investment strategies, geographies, and sectors.
  • Assist in maintaining strong market relationships (sell‐side/buy‐side).
  • Manage relationships with executing brokers and commission budget.
  • Perform informative, reliable, and timely investment monitoring and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of the investment process and internal controls.
  • Contribute to improving operational processes.

 

Required Qualifications

Training

  • Relevant University degree
  • CFA designation

Professional Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in public markets investment analysis

Skills

  • Quantitative aptitude, as evidenced by academic achievement and work experience
  • Fundamental research and analysis experience, strong financial modelling skills
  • A broad range of public market experience spanning manager selection, ETFs, equities, fixed income, and derivatives
  • Bilingual

Abilities

  • Proactive decision maker with the ability to provide well-thought-out and supported recommendations
  • Self‐starter with an entrepreneurial mindset demonstrates initiative and sound business judgment
  • Team player, open to input and willing to contribute to other areas of the organization
  • Strong, effective, and concise oral and written communication skills.
