Brief Description

The Manager, Sales Tax Advisory, works within Ryan’s Transaction Tax Group to conduct or manage the delivery of fee-based advisory services to clients, either by the Manager or by other members of the Sales Tax Advisory Team.  As required, the Manager will either perform or assign different tasks to the Team and will coach other members of the Sales Tax Advisory Team in the performance of consulting, advisory, and training engagements, both in conjunction with and independently from, the Principal, Sales Tax.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assigns and directs advisory staff in the performance of engagements, including scheduling, managing the progress and completion of engagements, ensuring the production of reports, reviewing such reports for completeness and accuracy, ensuring the delivery or electronic communication of such reports to clients, and managing all interaction with clients by consulting staff.
  • Performs engagements for clients as assigned, either alone or with the assistance of Team members or either Ryan employees, including all such types of engagements that might be assigned to the Sales Tax Advisory Team.
  • Prepares and presents tax seminars and workshops for clients.
  • Attends and participates in Ryan’s professional training on Sales Tax matters.
  • Assists in the development of additional service lines for offering to clients.
  • Supports personal development of employees that report directly to the incumbent.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications


  • Hold a recognized accounting designation (CPA) (preferred)
  • In-Depth Tax Program from CPA Canada (an asset)

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 4 or more years of experience in accounting or Sales tax-related experience in consulting services, industry and/or public accounting, Tax authorities environment
  • Ideally, working experience as a professional in the commodity tax field

Key Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Goods and Services Tax, Quebec Sales Tax, and Provincial Retail Sales Tax legislation and policies Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research
  • This position may require supervisory responsibilities for employees in the Sales Tax Advisory Group
  • Bilingual (written and spoken)

Additionnal requierement

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Canadian passport
  • Minimal travel requirement with potential overnight travel occasionally


  • Superior organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
  • High level of self-motivation and ethical conduct.
  • Good client relations and communication skills: pleasant, positive personality
