From then to now

Founded in 1990 by the Province Ville-Marie des Sœurs grises, La Maison grise de Montréal has since responded to an imperative need for longer-term housing for homeless, abused, or troubled women. In 1997, the organization was transferred to a laic administration of different professional backgrounds who now make up the Board of Directors. A highly involved board and a proactive management team work in tandem to pursue this important mission.

La Maison grise de Montréal has developed a great deal of expertise and is now recognized for its clinical approach to social reintegration, the quality of its services, and the relevance of its mission. Over the years, it has contributed enormously to helping hundreds of women without resources regain their self-esteem and give meaning to their lives.


To welcome, house, supervise and support abused women, alone or with children, living with multiple social problems to help them regain power over their lives and develop their potential.

Brief Description 

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Director, Finance, and Administration oversees the financial management (accounting, treasury, taxation, management control, internal audit, etc.) and administrative management (general services, building maintenance, information technology, procurement, etc.) of La Maison grise (LMG). It ensures LMG's compliance with the laws and regulations in its field of expertise.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities 

Finance and Accounting

  • Manage LMG's accounting and financial system as a whole
  • Performs LMG accounting management and control reports and statistical reports. Verify, report, and explain variances
  • Act as a resource person for financial and administrative management and support the general management in monitoring exercises and strategic, financial, and budgetary planning
  • Prepare, consolidate and follow up on the various annual budgets
  • Manage LMG's accounts payable and receivable
  • Manage bank balances and perform bank reconciliations with the accounting technician
  • In collaboration with the Managing Director, manage the administrative and accounting aspects of the employees (salaries, bonuses, allowances, leaves, etc.)
  • Verify employee payroll, government remittances, and employee RRSP contributions
  • Prepare the various accountability reports required by government authorities and our major donors, ensuring the proper use of grants and donations received
  • Prepare grant and funding applications, including supporting documentation and figures
  • Manage donations and issue receipts
  • Represent LMG and collaborate with external stakeholders (government authorities, funders, auditors, donors, suppliers, etc.)
  • Supervise the work of the accounting technician and evaluate her performance

Supply and Maintenance of the building

  • Ensures the procurement of building supplies and office equipment while seeking to minimize costs
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the installations, electrical and mechanical systems (air conditioning, heating, electricity, plumbing)
  • Negotiate and manage service contracts, including maintenance and preventive maintenance contracts, and ensure that the established conditions are respected
  • Obtain and negotiate bids from suppliers when repairs/work is required
  • Supervise the janitor and outside suppliers when repairs are required
  • Maintains repair logs for movable and immovable assets and plans for maintenance and replacement of these assets at the end of their useful life

Information Technology

  • Estimate computer equipment and software needs
  • Plan software and equipment upgrades
  • Act as an internal resource person

Required Qualifications


  • Undergraduate degree in administration or accounting

Professional experience

  • At least three (3) years of experience in a similar position


  • Interested and motivated by LMG's mission, knowledge of the community environment is an asset
  • Ability to get actively involved in files (''hands-on'')
  • Advanced knowledge of the Office suite, particularly Excel, and knowledge of Acomba software an asset
  • Excellent oral and written French language skills


  • Versatility, social commitment, dynamism, analytical skills, team spirit, good communication skills, autonomy, and ability to adapt.
